When & How Often Should You Post?

Carefully planning your social media postings can help maximize their sharing and readership. You want to pick the right time in addition to posting just the right amount. We dug up a few facts and tips to help you make the most out of your digital content.

Best time to post for:

  • Twitter: posting later in the day and in the week are the most retweetable times
  • Facebook: sharing occurs most on the weekend
  • Blogs: blogs are most likely to be read between 7am-9am

Of course these are just average statistics. It wouldn't hurt to try figure out what works for your own target audience. Tools like Buffer allow your to queue and post tweets, and will tell you how often that tweet was shared and clicked on. Utilizing tools like these allow you to track when's the best time for your readers and clients.

How Often Should You Post?

Do NOT overdo posting. Regardless of whether you're using Tumblr, Twitter, Pinterest or Facebook, too much content can drive readers away. Think your posting as candy, and other people's posts as other foods. Candy's great but if it's everywhere and gets to the point where you can't eat your steak, potatoes and drink your juice, it would get frustrating and you'd get sick of it. So limit the candy intake.

Try a tactic of either spreading our your content over the course of the day, or setting a certain number of posts. Post every 2 or 3 hours, or have 2-5 posts you share every day.

Recycle!

Remember: the morning crowd may have missed your morning post, or someone in another time zone may not have seen it. If you have something important to share, share it twice during the day to ensure it's being seen.

5 Steps for SEO

Get on the right track with SEO!

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is what makes your website appear first on Google, Bing or Yahoo. It involves a few strategic moves to ensure your website beats out the others, and makes it to the first page in search results.

Search engine searches are an automated process using multiple factors to determine what it is you're probably looking for in a search. To ensure your business comes up in search results, make sure you're following these steps for maximum search capability:

  1. Submit your links: one of the easier parts of SEO is link submissions. Google is the easiest with just a request for the link, a verification and BOOM: SEOed. Click here to submit your link to Google.
  2. Pictures: a lot of our web traffic comes from image searches. Hey, you never know if someone looking for an image will stumble upon what you have to offer with interest. Also, an image search increases your incoming traffic as opposed to limiting yourself to just text searches.
  3. Backlinks: a backlink is when an external website references your URL. This is the MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR in SEO. Google looks for popular and trusted websites that link other URLs to establish those as trusted sources. Find reputable websites and figure out a way for them to include a link to your website. The easiest way to do this is through:
  4. Social Media: Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and Pinterest, to name a few, are all reputable websites Google considers when enhancing your SEO. If you have accounts with these platforms, include your link. Also, some social media websites have considerable pull in search engine results. LinkedIn and Twitter for example usually come up in the first page within days of registering for them.
  5. Keywords: if you have something to offer, SAY SO! Offer a thorough description of your business on your webpages. And include as many related words as possible. This helps someone Googling a variation of keywords to find your webpage. For example, if you run a boarding stable, include words like "stable", "barn", and "farm" in your website.

How to Write A Twitter Bio

Contrary to popular belief, your favourite quote or a smiley face is not acceptable. It matters! When people are leafing through a list of potential people to follow, you have 160 characters to convince them you're worth following or they'll move on. Here's what to keep in mind:

  • Get to the point: 160 character's gets spent fast so just cut to the chase. It's tempting to write introductions or something to convey a better sense of  who you are. However you might not have space. Get out an exact description of your business  If you have space left over, then go for the personal touch.
  • Use hashtags: hashtags are those words that have a "#" in front of them. Use those in your description. When someone does a search on Twitter, hashtags link you to what they're looking for and could potentially turn into a follow. Try  #graphicdesigner, #gourmetcheese, etc. There may plenty of generic tags like #marketing so narrow yours down to something more specific like #digitalmarketing, #instoremarketing, etc.
  • Fill out the whole form: don't forget to include a link, location and all that jazz. If you don't have a website, shame on you, but throw in a Facebook page or blog link. Anything to further engage visitors.
