When & How Often Should You Post?

Carefully planning your social media postings can help maximize their sharing and readership. You want to pick the right time in addition to posting just the right amount. We dug up a few facts and tips to help you make the most out of your digital content.

Best time to post for:

  • Twitter: posting later in the day and in the week are the most retweetable times
  • Facebook: sharing occurs most on the weekend
  • Blogs: blogs are most likely to be read between 7am-9am

Of course these are just average statistics. It wouldn't hurt to try figure out what works for your own target audience. Tools like Buffer allow your to queue and post tweets, and will tell you how often that tweet was shared and clicked on. Utilizing tools like these allow you to track when's the best time for your readers and clients.

How Often Should You Post?

Do NOT overdo posting. Regardless of whether you're using Tumblr, Twitter, Pinterest or Facebook, too much content can drive readers away. Think your posting as candy, and other people's posts as other foods. Candy's great but if it's everywhere and gets to the point where you can't eat your steak, potatoes and drink your juice, it would get frustrating and you'd get sick of it. So limit the candy intake.

Try a tactic of either spreading our your content over the course of the day, or setting a certain number of posts. Post every 2 or 3 hours, or have 2-5 posts you share every day.

Recycle!

Remember: the morning crowd may have missed your morning post, or someone in another time zone may not have seen it. If you have something important to share, share it twice during the day to ensure it's being seen.
